With Gratitude
A little over eight years ago LaPolena opened its doors to offer a unique alternative to travelers and locals alike. We have since welcomed over three thousand guests from 40 states and 21 countries, many of whom shared their stories in our guest books. I have read each and every entry and you have become a part of the LaPolena family.
As many of you know, the original plan was to operate the B&B for ten years, but God always laughs at me when I tell Him my plan and as Miss Kathy said at my celebration last week, “LaPolena, has seen so many big life events!” You too have shared your biggest life memories with me, and I thank you all for that opportunity.
Earlier in May we hosted our last guests. Cynthia and David Bowler were regulars at LaPolena, so I found it most fitting to close the doors as we exchanged the words, “Safe travels, see you next time!” I couldn’t bear to tell them they were my last guests.
Thank you for allowing LaPolena to be a part of your anniversary, birthday, holiday getaway, wedding, babymoon, holiday celebrations, girls weekends, reunions, employment search, home search, family ring ceremonies and memorials over the past eight years. I especially thank all the women who came out on Wednesday nights for wine! I am filled with gratitude.
As I write, the new owners are getting settled in and will make the home their private residence. Please welcome them just as you did when I came to call Southport my home.
LaPolena may be closing, but “Miss Suzy” will continue to serve. Once settled into my new location, I plan be an interim innkeeper allowing owners/operators to take a break, just as Miss Kathy did for me. So, this is not a goodbye, but perhaps one day when you check into another bed and breakfast, I will once again greet you and our families reunite.
